They were that way upon opening. I opened the set a few years ago and never used them, only studied the art, and briefly at that. They've been sitting in a wardrobe since. The box has some damage, as pictured. The card with the most damage is The Stone King, the last card pictured. As you can see, the front of the card doesn't show the card's back damage.
