Description: The PHOTOGRAPHIC HISTORY of THE CIVIL WAR in 10 Volumes 1912. Very nice 1st Edition set of books. The books were published on the 50th anniversary of the commencement of hostilities between the Confederate and Union forces. The 10 volume set of books were printed in 1911 and are entitled, "The Photographic History of The Civil War". The Editor in Chief was Francis Trevelyan Miller. Each of the volumes was written by various individuals. The books were put out by the Review of Reviews Company of New York. The books were published by the Patriot Publishing Co of Springfield, MA. There is a forward by President Howard Taft in the first volume. The books have obviously been rebound at some point as this is the nicest set that I have viewed. My late father acquired them in the late 1950's. The books have a black leather hardcover. The spine is done in same material as the covers with a gold gilt lettering on each volume. The books are not signed and have no markings in them at all. Very clean set overall. The books are still well bound. The hardboard covers are securely attached. No mold, tobacco, or mildewy smell. The books have great pictures of people, ships, equipment, and battlefields associated with the American Civil War of 1861-1865. The books include contributions from eminent individuals, scholars, politicians, and Officers of both the Union and Confederate armies and navies Each of the ten books is 10-7/8" tall, by 8.25" across, by approximately 1.5" wide.
