Description: The Third Great American Indian Exposition Art Paperback Book 1995 The Virginia Native American Cultural Center held it's first meeting on October 7, 1991 in Richmond, Virginia. A. Kay Ensing from the Haliwa-Saponi tribe, had placed an ad in the Richmond Newspaper asking Native People to Unite. About 50 people responded to that ad and attended the meeting at Grace Covenant Church on Monument Avenue in Richmond. What they found was a nervous Kay Ensing, stating quite simply that she wanted to know more about her culture and she wanted to know more about them. The response was totally positive and the birth of VNACC began. Since that time, much has been accomplished for this non-profit (501-C3) organization. One of it's biggest accomplishment has been the approval of a Native American license plate, which has just gotten the Govenor's ok this past spring. Currently, the volunteer staff at VNACC are focusing on a bright future for this organization. Grant writing has become a non-stop process, with a hope of an actual building being established in the state within the next 12 months. The staff, which has been volunteer since it began, believe in Native America and their heritage. VNACC most recently has closed down it's office in downtown Richmond with the hope of a bigger and better expansion in the future. The VNACC office number has changed, but all correspondence can still be addressed to the post office box during this transition. The members of VNACC should be proud of their organization and their leaders. The people that take care of the business at hand all believe in the spirit of VNACC and are working hard on not only re-establishing offices in the state, but also on establishing a community center for Natives. Future goals are totally focused on education, which has been a primary goal since day one. We are looking into developing a place where we can meet as one. The way it should be. Finally. Book is in good condition. General shelf and corner wear. A few white marks on the front and back cover. Some fraying along the cover the edges. A solid reading copy.
