VHD Videodisc Lot Japan TESTED not CED LD or DVD

Description: Offered for sale are seven (7) tested and working VHD videodisc titles imported from Japan. Cosmetic condition (cover, insert, caddy) ranges from excellent/good/fair. Typically, covers that are still in shrink wrap are considered to be in excellent condition unless otherwise noted. See any additional notes listed below and please be sure to view all included photos. All discs are inspected, removed from the caddy, gently cleaned, and previewed for several minutes throughout each chapter using a Victor HD-9300 player with new stylus. The discs will NOT work with DVD, Laserdisc, CED, or VHS players. Occasionally, VHD players pop up on ebay as the now defunct format is gaining popularity among collectors. Titles offered in this lot: - E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial – Opened in shrink wrap with obi and insert. - Batteries not Included –With obi and insert. Cover in excellent condition. - Harry and the Hendersons – With obi and insert. Cover in excellent condition. - Return to OZ – With insert. Cover in good condition. - An American Tail (Japanese title - An American Story) – With insert. Cover in fair condition. - Splash – Opened in shrink wrap with insert. - Short Circuit – With insert. Cover in good condition. All discs have been tested and successful playback has been confirmed. It’s important to note that there is the potential for static and/or skips depending on the condition of the player these are being used with. Static is primarily caused by dust particles and can be remedied simply be repeat playback. Skips are typically caused by a physical defect on the disc surface or a worn stylus. I have almost 20 years of experience with the format (collecting, cleaning, and even repairs) so please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns. The VHD (Video High Density) videodisc format was an analog video disc system developed by JVC and introduced in Japan in 1983. Unlike the optical LaserDisc, VHD used a physical stylus for reading the disc, which did not have grooves but was instead tracked electronically. The format was capable of storing up to 60 minutes of NTSC video per side. Despite its innovative approach, including a unique interactive capability for video games and training systems, VHD faced stiff competition from other video formats like VHS and Betamax. Its market reach remained limited, primarily finding a niche in karaoke systems and as an educational tool. The production of VHD discs continued into the early 1990s, but the format did not achieve widespread adoption and saw its last new release in 1990. Because these are vintage items and playback quality relies on the model and condition of the user’s hardware, these are being sold as-is and no returns will be accepted.
