Description: Made in Japan in 1964, this Teisco Audition guitar was super-modified in 1979 by the inimitable Antoine “Kalamazoo” Ferraro in NYC’s East Village. Antoine was a zen in the art of guitar modification… Famously, among other legends, Ry Cooder played one of these guitars. Antoine was handed this instrument and was asked to “make me sound like Cooder.” His response: “Only years of hard work and dedication can do that, but I can sure as hell make this guitar sound like Cooder’s guitar.” A month later, the guitar emerged from Antoine’s musical bat cave. The surgery was a big success. Precisely what was done to the guitar is unknown, beyond the fact that one of the pickups was switched out. Other more mysterious transfigurations were performed, as well. The end result was magic. • Made of solid wood, the body design is retro-futuristic with an offset shape, giving it the signature look that has made it an iconic classic. • Vibrant sunburst finish. • Plastic “tortoiseshell” pick-guard. • Equipped with three single-coil pickups, often referred to as "Gold Foil" pickups, which produce a mellow and dynamic sound suitable for both clean and dirty playing. • Bolt-on neck construction with a rosewood fingerboard and dot inlays. • Body-mounted tremolo system, allowing for vibrato effects and added expressiveness in playing. Truly a one-of-a-kind guitar, it must be played to be appreciated.
