Vintage PB 1st Edition The Tolkien Reader JRR Tolkien!! Copy Has Wear! True 1st

Description: Here is a wonderful title in good condition. This is a great find to the millions of Tolkien readers out there in any condition. This is The Tolkien Reader by J.R.R. Tolkien. This is a vintage mass paperback edition and it is a stated first edition as shown on the copyright page published by Ballantine Books in 1966. Now the binding is square, tight, and the text is immaculate throughout. This is a well worn copy but it is a true first edition first printing of a much desired Tolkien title. The original price of .95 cents is present on the top of the front panel as shown and partly obscured on the upper spine of the book. The book is completely intact however there are many issues cosmetically. This copy will not fall apart as it is quite sound but as the photos show there are torn corners however small the tear, one scrape on the bottom tear panel, soiling across the book’s title, a crease down the spine and discoloration where a previous book seller’s price label was removed, and various chipping and tear along the edges. The front cover has separation at the very top and bottom also as shown in the photos provided. Collectors of vintage paperbacks understand that these were truly not meant to last and collectors are attracted to the artwork and design of the editions. Once placed in their archival plastic bags they rarely ever come out as is the case with this copy. I have taken it out to photograph it for this listing and it was then immediately returned to it’s home of many many years. They look absolutely wonderful on a collector’s shelves.
