Sony Str-V4 Vintage Stereo AM/FM Receiver

Description: The Sony STR-V4 is a sleek and powerful vintage receiver that was first introduced in 1978. At 55watts per channel it is a classic receiver that is the little brother of the Monster STR-V7. In the same series as the flagship model of Sony’s STR receiver lineup at the time, the STR-V4 combined Sony’s top engineering and technology into one very cool stereo. With its classy styling and restrained aesthetics, the STR-V4 exudes elegance. The brushed metal faceplate, with its chrome accents, and green glow of the tuning dial give the STR-V4 a polished, high-end look. The use of different textures and finishes for the knobs, meters, and display windows balanced functionality with sophisticated design. This unit has been carefully restored, lamps replaced with green LEDs, cheap veneer sides replaced with real walnut. At some point the original output devices were replaced with NTE92/93 pairs and it simply has stunning performance achieving over 75W RMS at the spec rated THD. At 55W this unit has better than 0.08% THD in my testing. It has dual output power VU meters, with right selectable to FM tuning signal strength, and a tuning center meter. It has an excellent FM tuner(as long as you use a 75Ohm to 300Ohm balun). It has a low distortion, In spec RIAA phono input for the vinyl enthusiast and 2 tape inputs for digital in line level use via a DAC or other sources. Supports 2 sets of 8Ohm speakers or 1 set of 4Ohm. This one of those underrated gems with excellent DNA at a time when Sony was making its mark.
