Description: VOLUTIDAE Cymbiola pulchra peristicta Australia. Queensland. North East Swain Reefs. Reef 21.281. Dredged upon sand substrate at night. 6-7 m. Circa 1980. 53 mm. "UNUSUAL COLOR IN THE PERISTICTA, A DREAM SHELL The subgenus Cymbiolacca to which this exclusive piece belongs shelters a group of fabulous shells found only along the coasts of northeastern Australia. Basically along and offshore the coasts of Queensland. We hear deal with a subspecies of the pulchra called “peristicta” which approaches in color the darkest pieces shown on plates 22 and 23 in the latest supplement of Visaya, on this particular group of Volutes. It is a perfect beauty. The subspecies peristicta, which is usually very well known from pure white shells with black dots only, lives in an offshore area that basically goes from Mackay south to Yeppoon. It contains the Departure Reef, Elusive Reef, the Swain Reefs and Hixson Cay. Rare coloration." - Poppe Documented by Conchology Inc Please enjoy the detailed images to confirm overall quality and condition. Thank you!
