Description: Publication date of 1946. In a couple of volumes the hinges are somewhat shaken. No pages or signatures are loose, nor are the covers in danger of detaching (assuming reasonable handling). There was probably gilt lettering on the spines at the time of publication; now there is none, only remaining blind stamping of the original titles (barely legible). The bindings are not super tight but still quite nice if you enjoy volumes that lie flat when opened. I find no writing or highlighting throughout (except inside the front covers where a previous owner stamped his name and a bookseller wrote the price of the set in pencil). Pages are age-toned and there’s slight water damage to the inside of the back cover in at least one volume. Slight staining and spotting in most volumes (especially close to the covers). Old volumes! Very readable and in quite decent condition considering.
