Description: This is a really intriguing antique/early mid century (1941) oil painting depicting a portrait of a Japanese man at profile! He is seated wearing a checkered coat with his arms crossed and head tilted down as if to show he is in a state of contemplation. Very well done with pleasing brushstrokes and color pallet. Boasts thick paint and great capture of emotion. Medium is oil on canvas board done in an expressionist style. Signed and dated in Japanese on the verso by the artist. It lists the artist name and a date of February, 1941. It is worth noting that this painting was done just over 9 months before the infamous attack on Pearl Harbor. Quite worthy of further research. In Good condition with gentle wear and soiling as well as cracking in areas, which is typical to piece over 80 years old, as well as edge and corner wear/chipping. Exhibits some gentle paper on the paint in areas, likely from another piece resting upon it at one point. Still remains quite bright and vibrant and displays tremendously! Ready for framing.
