Description: This unique metal threaded embroidery piece featuring the Taj Mahal, is from a family members days in the China, Burma, India conflict of WWII. It is imprinted with Bombay India, 1943 - very faintly - as you can see in three of the pictures. It appears to have had lettering that was removed, in the style and size of the words, Taj Mahal. The fabric is not torn, has holes where stitches were removed. The embroidery is incredibly intricate. It stands up from the fabric. It appears that it contains threads of different metals, but I am unsure. It is stitched with a metal thread that is quite rough. There are golden metal threads in different tones of gold. They look like tiny twisted springs and not exactly thread. a rough metal thread forms the chain link detail that frames the Taj Mahal. The red thread is not metal. The discs in the detail are also metal and some are bent - I believe from folded storage. The black, woven fabric the design is on, is slightly fuzzy but I wouldn't call it soft. On the back of the black fabric it's smooth but not fuzzy. A stiff piece of what appears to be a woven natural fiber, hopefully you can tell by the pictures. It is loosely basted on the top half. On the bottom half where the Bombay, India, 1943 metal thread was removed, the backing is no longer attached. Although it isn't a perfect rectangle, from the edge of the scallops, it is 35 1/2" tall and 33" wide. Hopefully it is a style of embroidery or a piece of history you might like to add to your collection!
